Vacay Day 7: Late Dinner

Had dinner at a quaint little restaurant in Montego Bay and for the occasion I wore this vintage lace dress. I wore the same dress about 2 years earlier to Caribbean Fashion Week and about a month later I could no longer fit into it so I was just so excited that it now fits and more comfortably than the first time I wore it. What is even more amazing is that I can fit into clothes that I've had since the 9th grade , weight loss is such a beautiful thing!

Paired the little vintage number with my go to creme heels and a matching clutch this time around.

Vacay Day 6: Sunset Resort , Montego Bay

As soon as I got back to Jamaica the first order of the day was to take out those heavy and ridiculously annoying braids and just as I thought my hairline was thinning as a result of the pressure from the tight plaits. So relieved that the braids were out , I couldn't think to do anything more to my natural hair than to put two huge cornrows in it and head out ; au natural.

One of my darling girlfriends and I spent a day at Sunset Resort in Montego Bay just eating everything in sight , engaging in water sport activities and chatting and laughing all day.

I had lunch in this bronze leopard print swimsuit I bought in the Falmouth Craft Market about 5 years ago , a silk Karen Millen pencil skirt and chunky Jessica Simpson sandals...  kept it very simple.

Took some random photos in the same swimsuit the day I did this practice shoot with O'Neil Perrin a couple years ago , just thought I would share two with you.

Vacay Day 5: Wild Safari

While in Florida my friend and I went on a wild safari tour. At some points of the tour we were just a few feet from the animals which was very cool.

That day I wore every single animal print that I have in my closet , maybe to show the wild animals that I come in peace or to confuse them , I don't know.

I took the feathers off an old carnival costume and made a feather neck piece , its my favorite accessory right now.

Vacay Day 4: Wynwood Art District

Took a quick trip to Florida to see my long time friend and one of my favorite persons. She knows that I am a fan of Art so I was quite pleased when she took me to Wynwood Art District to check out the Art galleries. We walked around all day and admired the Art , tried to make sense of some of it , took pictures of the pieces and created our own Art through photography.

Wore a vintage two piece set that was once a dress and I reworked it to suit my liking.

Just a few throw back pictures of art exhibitions I visited circa 2013. I always had an appreciation for Art , especially in the form of poetry and literature , music , the human body and paintings , in fact I used to draw and paint back in the day and I was an Art student in high school. Some weekends I would visit the Art gallery in downtown Kingston for inspiration.

Already in the hall , already on the wall , work of Art , Warhol.

Vacay Day 3: Sensuality

Just some thoughts at 2 :00 a.m ...

One thing for sure is that I am a very passionate and sensual person by nature and its woven into every fibre of my being. I relish in the ability to awakened my inner sensuality and then flip it off like a switch when I want to.

Now , you portray the appropriate image to suit the role you play in the environment which you are in but when you are in your natural habitat is it OK to just be your true unguarded self?

As I grow older and my life tends in a particular direction I find myself feeling a bit on-edge about being judged by certain persons and groups ; then it dawned on me how some have the ability to deny sensuality to others as if being sensual is wrong.

To me sensuality is being sexy without being vulgar. Sensuality is beautiful and in the right context is a form of Art.

But anyway , I took these pictures while I was on vacation. We went to get fish and bammy by the beach and my friend Oniel (who is also a photographer) insisted that we take a few pictures , he is always on the look out for a Kodak moment ..any time , any place. I had an over-night bag in my vehicle from our trip to Portland and so I rummaged through it and when I didn't find anything that made sense I threw on this Victoria's Secret night gown.

FlashbackFriday: TVJ's Smile Jamaica Fashion Show & Style Feature

February 2015 marks the 1 year Anniversary since I was featured on the Jamaican morning time programme Smile Jamaica on TVJ. I remember that morning I was such a nervous wreck ; I was sweating , trembling , I forgot my name , I felt like I was going to vomit and friggin pass out. Though my fashion is loud and daring I am actually very low-key and almost shy especially in front of a crowd. My appearance on Smile Jamaica was definitely a learning experience for me as it was a step forward in overcoming one of my weaknesses.

Anyway , we spoke about Vintage fashion in Jamaica and I presented a showcase of vintage pieces that were available to the public to purchase. My get-up was of-course vintage and was accentuated by fishnet stockings , red lips and a fresh new haircut.

Some of the pieces that were modeled ...

On another note ,  today is the late great Bob Marley's birthday so you know Jamaica's night life is spewing tributes left , right and center , one of which I am getting ready to head out to. Happy Birthday His Majesty!

The Sunday Gleaner Outlook Magazine- Style Feature

Speaking of Rasta mesh merinos .. last year I took a shot at styling the versatile piece in a kind of "80's Madonna meets a Rastafarian biker chick" kind of way for a Sunday Gleaner Outlook Magazine style feature on vintage clothing and my love for same. It took me by surprise when I saw the feature because I was expecting a small mention in the magazine but instead I was on the front page with a full center spread on the inside. Infact ,  weeks had gone by and the feature wasn't published and though I was disappointed I just forgot about it and then on one typical Sunday morning while grocery shopping I took a glimpse at the newspaper stand and there I was! Front page of the Sunday Gleaner Outlook Magazine , I couldn't stop jumping and screaming (and a little twerking lol)

It was so surreal to me , I had to buy two copies just so I know it was real...

The shoot was last minute and rushed and hence there was no theme or concept and not much thought went into the looks I put together but the end result turned out to be a cross between 70's glam and an island biker chick vibe.

Even without a theme or concept photographer Danielle McCook recognized the direction the shoot should take with each outfit change and beautifully captured and communicated my sentiments with out me even saying a word.

Some of the barely edited and raw images from the shoot ...

Make-up artist Kimberly Mayne went for a very natural and minimal make-up look which made the outfit changes seamless as we didn't have to remove and re-apply make-up. Kim didn't get a chance to show off her amazing make-up artistry because the time was so limited but you can view her work here.

Hair stylist Ezra somehow managed to keep my hair looking fresh after I got drenched in the rain a couple times.

A big thank you to photographer Danielle McCook , make-up artist Kimberley Mayne and hairstylist  Ezra and everyone that was involved with this project. To the Jamaica Gleaner team.. thank you for offering me the feature , the day I saw my face on the front of the Magazine on the news paper stand will definitely go down as a memorable moment.
