Opa Blue

Had I known that the dinning experience at Opa Restaurant was so superb I would have done an actual feature on the new Greek Restaurant (photos and all) but I didn't go with that intent so I'll just share a quick synopsis of my night. 

 The atmosphere at Opa is very intimate and homely , the decor ; simplistic yet artistic and the staff was beyond kind and attentive. I was so skeptical about the menu offering because I've never tried Greek cuisine before but the food was so good I ate my okra and tomato vegetarian mix and had half of my date's Greek pizza too. 

As we were about to leave all the staff members came out singing and wishing me a Happy Birthday (with a slice of desert in hand) even though my Birthday was over a month ago ,  needless to say ,  I was pleasantly surprised and  particularly impressed with how warm and welcoming the Opa family was.

 It's fair to say I found a hidden gem in the heart of Kingston that deserves nothing less that a 5 star rating for the overall fine dinning experience offered.

For the night out I wore a sequin mini , attempted to be modest with a furry wrap draped over my shoulders and accessorized with random silver jewelry. I think a white furry piece loosely thrown over the shoulders with a simple dress is such a youthful yet classy look.

Wild

I know its not throwback Thursday but I am throwing it back on this here Monday with this wild animal print dress I wore sometime in 2014 on a date.

Did my usual re-working on this vintage piece and shortened and penciled the once flared dress , did a triangular cut out in the back , added shoulder pads for structure and black lining around the neck and along the bodice for a little definition.

I'm not a make-up guru but I tried my hand at a sexy black and grey smokey eye and dark red lips. I'm planning to experiment more with my make-up this year and when I do get it right share short tutorials.

This picture does the scenery absolutely no justice but the view of the city lights across from Morgan's Harbour is breathtakingly beautiful at night. Anyway little darlings , hope you are all having a safe and peaceful Easter Holiday.

Sequin X Denim

Though I am not one to follow "fashion rules" I can never understand why it is deemed a "fashion crime" to wear sequin after the Christmas season or in the daytime when it is so versatile that you can always find a way to style it to suit almost any occasion ,  any time of the day , any time of the year.

Sequin is , indeed , very glamorous but it is understated when juxtaposed with simplicity. A sequin skirt worn with a plain top or a heavily embellished top worn with baggy cargo pants or  distressed jeans is an ideal pairing if you want to be "dressed down fancy".

Wore the denim and sequin combination last week to go see a play.

All Things Shiny

Its fair to say that all things shiny gets heavily featured this time of the year , mainly because its around the time of my birthday which puts me in full blown glamour puss mode. Went to dinner the other evening wearing this dazzling gold-tone , white and black sequin and beaded vintage dress I've had for a while now.

I have a tendency to always want to add something extra ; a big floppy hat or baseball cap, a faux fur stole , a huge bag or belt , tulle , a head piece , excessive jewelry and if I don't I feel like something is missing. Each time I put on an accessory with this dress I ended up taking it off and that is no surprise because when you have on a "lime light" piece you should really allow it to take the spotlight. Ended up wearing simple gold sandals , a matching vintage clutch and minimal jewelry.

Birthday 2015: Sequin & Tulle

As the birthday outings continue , fluffy textures and sequin gets a sequel but this time with an over sized men's button up shirt. Layered underneath my sequin mini skirt are two tulle skirts , these two to be exact , which created a kind of fishtail effect. I like the way a crisp button up shirt tames any ensemble and in this case allows my skirt to get its shine. It’s all about contrast and balance when it comes to putting together something that is simple but interesting.

Birthday 2014: Sequin Season

Whenever I want to be glamorous I wear materials and textures such as silk , satin , velvet , sequin and tulle for volume. Wore this lustrous sequin top with two tulle skirts for a night out with my friends back in 2014. It was my birthday outing so I thought there was no better time to wear my favorite vintage sequin top and sparkle under the moon light until the wee hours of the morning.

Birthday 2014: Red Velvet

Birthdays onset a very strange feeling upon me ; on one hand its celebratory as I thank the good God for another year and on the other hand I feel as if I should have accomplished more at my age.Thus far I've followed the blueprint ; studied hard and got into a good High school , did well and went to a good University , graduated and got a job at a dynamic and innovate company but yet I find myself lamenting on the decisions I've made and whether or not I am living up to my true potential.Sometimes I ponder on the future so much that it stresses me out.

My friend and I share the same birth month and on her birthday she was crying as she wasn't sure if she liked the direction her life was taking. In an effort to console her I somehow consoled myself as I realized that growth is not only measured in the tangible and material things we acquire but also in the way we think and analyze situations , the ability to let go of certain things that hold us back and gain way more whether through new friendships or just further self realization and maturity.

I know this is a fashion blog but I just felt that I had to say that for all the twenty something and early thirty something year olds that is just trying to chart their path through this unpredictable World.

By the way , today is my Birthday (March 2) and I will be at work so I am looking forward what to what my friends and family have in store for me on the weekend. Last year , my family took me to a beautiful restaurant in the capital, it was an initiate affair as usual. Some of the pictures from that night in 2014 ...
