July's Inspiration

Pastel is still on the radar for 2013 but things would get a lot more fascinating if a little texture is added with lace. Sultry and sensuous lacy patterns in playful pastel hues creates a sexy , dainty and feminine appeal and gives an irrefutable grace to your look. Experiment with neutrals such as caramel or nude lace or pair light hues of yellow, pink, green, blue and orange with shoes in the same color family or even metallic. To add even more interest go for thought provoking  translucent/sheer lace. While choosing the degree of sheerness, pay much attention to the shape of your body and also the place you are attending. Its more appropriate to wear a thick more covered lace pattern in the day time and at night you can almost go as sheer as you want. Keep the mood going with loose curls in your hair and soft make-up for an overall easy- going and relaxed look.

A few months ago I was wearing a lot of black , heavy boots , leather and spikes , you would think I was going to war or something. Truth be told I was anxious and on edge and I guess the way I was feeling reflected in the way I dressed. I launched http://whitefur.bigcartel.com/  just about two weeks ago and the response and support has been pretty amazing for something that is still  in its newborn stage , I cannot thank you enough. Now I can chill the hell out! I'm a lot happier these days and I find myself incorporating a lot of  soft , light  and delicate textures such as lace in pretty pastels , neutrals and white in my outfits. To be honest I'm not really a girly girl but I was starting to miss looking and feeling feminine.

July's Favorite

A few minutes before her designs were to hit the runway at the 2013 Caribbean Fashion Week show , Ashley Martin and I was in the FX Trader boothe taking pictures for their fan page. I remember Ashley saying that her line was going on last and "she come fi dun the place" , truth be told she really did. Her line called "Attitude" was jaw dropping from start to finish. Her designs were a mixture of sophistication , class , glamour and elegance with delicate lace patterns, feathers and fur , sequins and Swarovski crystals for a dramatic finish. I fell in love with everything , it was more than just fashion , it was Art and that night she got a standing ovation from me. These are just a few pictures from the show but the entire line was just amazing ; it was fun , daring , feminine and undeniably pristine and beautifully executed.

O'Neil Perrin Photography

My friend O' Neil is a budding photographer and he's been getting a lot of practice on me.A couple months ago he asked me to help him out by doing a shoot to update his portfolio and I finally got a chance to do it last weekend. These pictures are barely edited (and they look pretty good) and were actually his rejects (which I happen to like) but when he does the editing on his favorites you will be able to see them here https://www.facebook.com/pages/ONeil-Perrin-Photography/162390547142837

Dear little fashion bunnies,

I've been hiding something from you for over a month now http://whitefur.bigcartel.com/ . I guess I was nervous because its a little different from typical island dressing and I wasn't too sure if Jamaicans would appreciate what I have to offer. White Fur is a melting pot of vintage , trendy (coming soon) and custom designed pieces (coming soon) and it represents all things glamorous , classy and eclectic. The pieces were hand picked from the best vintage shops , boutiques and outlet stores in the United States and Canada and carefully reconstructed , curated and presented in a modern day fashion. For those that have a taste for exclusive custom designed styles  very soon we will have pieces from the best Caribbean designers for you to choose from in the comfort of your home , but for now I'm starting  here and I'm really just getting warmed up , I hope you will love it as much as I do.

With love,
Thalia Marie

Caribbean Fashion Week: Day 3

Its no secret that I have a love for vintage pieces , so much so that I still rummage through my mother's closet to find a vintage piece that I haven't reconstructed as yet. Last year I found this floor length Cinderella-esque pink gown in a vintage shop in Atlanta and I bought it not knowing what I could make of it. I started working on the dress and I changed the shape of the bottom to a hi-low design and used the excess material to exaggerate the shoulders and add a bow at the hip. I adjusted the dress to fit my frame , ironed it and hung it up in my closet as my Caribbean Fashion Week Day 3 outfit ; it was pretty much perfect in my eyes. Two weeks later , on the day of the show , I could not get into the dress! Apparently I gained a few pounds but I already had my mind set on wearing this piece so I held my breath and wiggle and squeeze into it. I couldn't breathe the entire night but at least my dress looked fly.
